Typical prices for converting print books to ASCII (plain text) or unstyled Microsoft Word work out at:
- Trade Books: $20 per book, plus $2.00 per page.
- Single Spaced Manuscripts: $15 per document, plus $3.00 per page.
- Double Spaced Manuscripts: $15 per document, plus $1.50 per page.

- Trade Books: $20 per book, plus $2.25 per page.
- Single Spaced Manuscripts: $15 per document, plus $3.25 per page.
- Double Spaced Manuscripts: $15 per document, plus $1.75 per page.
(When converting to styled Microsoft Word, tables will be imaged (unless they are very simple tables). We provide 3 levels of header and indicate the various kinds of emphasis - e.g. bold and italic).

Note 1: We include up to 5 images free of charge. Additional images are $1.50 each.
Note 2: For best results we remove the bindings of bound materials, which allows us to scan materials flat and achieve higher quality Optical Character Recognition (OCR). If you do not want the binding removed from your books, there is an added charge of $.50 per page to both plain text and MS Word conversions.
Note 3: For Digital Talking Book (DTB) we will include alternate text for images that you can provide us either as Word of Excel files. We include up to 5 images free of charge. Additional images are $1.50 each. Complex tables would be quoted separately.

Trade books - are English language books intended for general readership with paper size of 6x9 or smaller. They contain mostly text with a few images, simple tables, and special characters. Trade books typically have between 1500 and 2500 character per page. Typed Manuscripts - are on 8.5 x 11 paper (or their European equivalent). Single spaced manuscripts have 2500-3500 characters per page, double spaced 1250-1750 per page. |
Can you give me an example of how this pricing
scale works out in practice?
Yes. Let's look at trade books. We charge $20 per book (to convert to plain text), plus $2.00 per page. So the total cost per book, for a 200 page book, would be $420. If you are an author or smaller publisher, this may sound like a lot of money. We understand that. But, the fact is, in most cases the cost will be a full 50% less than if you do the conversion in-house.
That's quite a saving.

Okay, I'm convinced ... so how do I go about ordering?
It's very straightforward. You fill in the Preliminary Order Form giving us various details about the print book(s) you would like converted. We will respond by e-mail with an approximate price. You will also get a Transmittal Form, which is your Preliminary Order Confirmation and should be included when you ship your book to us to get a final quote.
On receipt of your book(s), we will confirm pricing via e-mail (or will give new pricing if the material turns out to be more complex than a standard trade book). So long as you are happy with the quote, you click on the Payment Link given in the e-mail. Payments are through the respected online payment provider PayPal (they have 17-million users worldwide). All major cards are accepted. Alternatively, you can mail us a check. If you decide not to go ahead, then we will return your book free of charge (via regular mail).
